Is A Non-surgical Nose Job Better Than Surgical Rhinoplasty?

We compare surgical rhinoplasty and a non-surgical nose job to help you make an informed decision

What is rhinoplasty?

Your nose shape and size can have a huge impact on your overall appearance. If you wish to change the shape or size of your nose, then a surgical nose job is a perfect option for you. A surgical nose job, or rhinoplasty, is one of the most popular plastic surgical procedures. But what is a rhinoplasty? Rhinoplasty is a surgery that changes the shape of the nose by modifying the bone or cartilage. There are two types of rhinoplasty:

  • Closed rhinoplasty: The inner nose structure is accessed from within the nostrils.
  • Open rhinoplasty: An incision is made on the small strip of tissue that separates the nostrils.

Why should you consider a rhinoplasty?

From fixing breathing problems to correcting a nose injury, there are a lot of reasons why people undergo a nose job. You can consider rhinoplasty if you wish to make the following changes to your nose:

  • A change in size
  • A change in angle
  • Straightening of the bridge
  • Reshaping of the tip
  • Narrowing of the nostrils

What are the benefits of a surgical rhinoplasty?

  • Permanent results: The results are significant and long-lasting.
  • Customised procedure: This procedure is customised based on your requirements to give you desired results.
  • Can correct breathing issues: A rhinoplasty is not only a cosmetic procedure. It can also correct breathing issues and structural changes by reshaping the nose.

What are the cons of a surgical rhinoplasty?

  • Higher risk of side effects: Since you are going under the knife, you are at a greater risk of bleeding, infection, a bad reaction to general anaesthesia, and even a numb nose.
  • Recovery time: Two to four weeks is required to recover from the surgery, and the swelling can take many months to subside. The results, too, are not visible immediately.
  • Scarring: As the procedure involves incisions, there is a higher risk of scarring.

What is a non-surgical nose job?

Clinical treatments

Do you want to change the appearance of your nose without going under the knife? If yes, then you should consider getting a non-surgical nose job. In non-surgical rhinoplasty, dermal fillers are injected to address issues like a dorsal hump (small bump), a drooping nasal tip, asymmetry, or to create subtle changes for a more attractive nose. This is usually done with hyaluronic acid, the same type of filler commonly used in cheek and lip fillers. These fillers are highly effective. According to a 2016 study, the hyaluronic acid gel was able to fix nasal issues that traditional rhinoplasty couldn’t address. It was also shown to correct minor post-rhinoplasty issues.

What are the benefits of a non-surgical nose job?

  • Minimally invasive: Unlike traditional rhinoplasty, a non-surgical nose job is a minimally-invasive procedure.
  • Quick procedure: The procedure takes just 15-20 minutes with immediate results.
  • No scars: Since the treatment does not involve any incisions, there is no risk of scarring.
  • Minimal downtime: The procedure requires minimal downtime. You can start your day to day activities immediately after the treatment.

What are the cons of a non-surgical nose job?

  • Results are temporary: The results of this procedure are temporary. The fillers are eventually absorbed by the body and retreatment is required.
  • Works only for minor issues: While a non-surgical nose job is a great way to change the appearance of your nose without going under the knife, it cannot solve all your nasal issues. It can only make minor changes to the appearance of your nose.

Which one is better: Rhinoplasty or non-surgical nose job?

Are you confused about whether you should go for a surgical rhinoplasty or a non-surgical nose job? Both procedures have their pros and cons. You should take into account your requirements, along with the pros and cons, to make an informed choice. If you want to make minor changes to your nose, then non-surgical rhinoplasty is best for you. However, if you are looking for drastic and permanent results, you should consider rhinoplasty.
