What is Photo Rejuvenation/Photo Facial?
While most people aim to keep a young and fresh look forever, this is not so simple as skin ages with excessive sun exposure, environmental pollutions, toxic diets and decreased production of collagen as we get older. The Skin rejuvenation treatment from Ellipse known as a Photo Facial helps maintain a younger and youthful look. The safe and visible multiple bands of light emitted from the Ellipse applicator ensures the skin looks smoother by removing dark age spots, diffusing redness, tightening open pores and by improving the skins general texture and tone. It also treats pigmentation making the skin appear even toned and uniform on the face. Many women report they no longer require make up to cover up their fresh flawless skin.
The Ellipse applicator or flash lamp is a unique IPL system which produces light which is carefully filtered in two ways to ensure that only the purest and safest light ((wavelength) is allowed to be emitted on the skin. This light has been chosen because water, protein and blood in the body will respond to it appropriately without causing any damage. For instance, age spots contain melanin, and diffuse redness such as Rosacea & facial thread veins, contains a substance called hemoglobin. During a treatment, when skin cells containing excessive of melanin or hemoglobin are exposed with the correct wavelength of light, it heats it up and destroys it within a few thousandths of a second.
As the skin rejuvenation process is based on light absorption into the melanin and hemoglobin, treatments are most efficient in clients with lighter skin tones who are not exposed to sun or have not been sun tanned recently prior to a treatment. This is because the lighter the skin tone, the more obvious the contrast between the age spot/blood vessels and the skin tone, making treatment much more effective. However, for even greater simplicity, the Ellipse has pre-programmed settings for different skin tones that ensure delivery of the correct energy output for different skin tones and complexion.
To begin with most people may notice that the skin looks a little “dirty” for the first few days following a photo facial treatment. Generally after that one can expect to find their skin looking smoother, brighter and noticeably fresher. It is recommended to do a course of 4-6 sessions over a 3 weekly period followed by 2-4 annual maintenance treatments in order to maintain youthful appearance for much longer.
Fortunately, there is no post-treatment care required. However those with sensitive skin may benefit from applying an ice pack to the face and skin immediately after treatment or applying an ointment prescribed by the dermatologist or therapist. Furthermore, it is highly recommended one uses sunscreen (minimum SPF 60) and avoids the sun on the particular area being treated, for the first few weeks following a treatment.
