Male Treatments For Anti-Ageing

Here are the treatments ideal for men who need a quick youthful glow without spending too much time in a doctor’s clinic

Good looks play a significant role in determining your success at the workplace as appearance is directly tied with self-esteem and the way people perceive you. These days men also face the pressure to look young and rested. However, constant work stress causes wrinkles, weight gain, and fine lines. These signs of premature ageing can be tackled through cosmetic treatments for men. While beauty procedures are mostly directed at women, in recent years there has been an increase in the number of men who are opting for skin rejuvenation treatments. According to a report by the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, 1.1 million men underwent minimally invasive procedures in 2019 alone. With social media and pop-culture promoting self-care as a gender-neutral theme, men are now more willing to invest in areas like cosmetology. They are adding detailed skincare products and even surgeries in their grooming rituals. A review of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery data points out that the male cosmetic sector is growing faster than the female sector. Dermatologists and aestheticians are seeing an increase in male patients, so they are adapting cosmetic treatments for male skin. This is because the male skin is thicker and has a high collagen density. Here are some highly effective and popular treatments for men:

Microdermabrasion: This is a non-invasive treatment in which the dead skin layer is gently removed with the help of a handheld device. This device either sands away or suctions off the dead cells. Microdermabrasion was approved by the FDA in 1996 and is suitable for all skin types. You can use this treatment to repair sun-damaged skin, even out your skin tone, and lighten wrinkles. This is one of the best treatments for men who suffer from blackheads or clogged pores. No downtime or resting period is needed after a microdermabrasion session and you can resume your regular activities immediately. You just need to apply a good sunblock.

Ultherapy: This is a nonsurgical anti-ageing treatment that uses ultrasound technology to stimulate collagen production, which reduces fine lines and tightens sagging skin. It is performed on the face, shoulders, and chest. One session lasts between 30 minutes to 90 minutes and it requires no anaesthesia. You do not need any special preparation before undertaking this procedure. Between 2015 to 2016, there was an 11.6 per cent increase in the number of ultherapy treatments. Many dermatologists recommend it as a cheaper and quicker alternative to a facelift.

Chemical Peels: Chemical peels are used to remove damaged skin cells. They improve your skin’s texture, increase its elasticity, and work particularly well for reducing acne scars. You can do this treatment on your face, neck, arms, and even legs. Chemical peels can be categorised into three categories based on their intensity. Mild peels have a gentle exfoliating effect, medium peels use glycolic acid to reduce hyperpigmentation, and finally, there are deep peels that use trichloroacetic acid to remove deep-seated acne scars.

Dermal Fillers: Dermal fillers are perhaps one of the most commonly used anti-ageing treatments for men. These are basically injectables that are prepared by your dermatologist depending on your skin’s specific requirement. Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers are great for treating roughness and flakiness. Dermal fillers that have polylactic acid are used to remove dead skin. Men also use dermal fillers to prevent the development of jowls below their jawlines. FEATURED IMAGE COURTESY: https://www.freepik.com/wavebreakmedia-micro
